The first edition of the journal came out in June 2018 which is now being followed by this second edition in 2019. A third edition of the journal is scheduled to come out in December 2019 thus, maintaining the regularity of the editions. We are truly making progress. I am pleased to see the very high quality papers in the second edition of the journal, mostly from Nigerian researchers. These papers cover a wide range of engineering issues which should form the basis of rich materials for discussion by researchers.
The Academy under my Presidency has evolved a policy to award prizes for the best three papers published in the journal. During the Annual Technology Dinner of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering held in June 2019, three papers were selected and awarded token cash prizes and award plaques. This approach is intended to motivate the contributors in order to improve the quality of papers to be published and the policy will be maintained, as approved by the Council.
Effort will be made to get the papers online and thereafter, obtain international academic ranking to be indexed, such as, in ISI - JCR, to make it truly an international journal of high repute.
I hereby commend the members of the Editorial Committee under the chairmanship of Engr. Professor S. Mustafa for their painstaking effort and sacrifice to get the journal out in record time.
I am truly grateful on behalf of our Academy to the former Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Engr. Dr. Ogbonnaya ONU for his consistent support and financial grant to the Academy which ensured the sustained production of the journal.
I acknowledge the contributions of Engr. Mrs. Joanna Olu MADUKA, the immediate Past President of the Academy and Engr I. K. INUWA, Technical Secretary, toward the production of the maiden issue of the journal. Appreciation is extended to all staff of the Secretariat, particularly, Engr. Professor A. O. DENLOYE and Mr. Abdulraheem SADIQ for their untiring effort in facilitating the producing current and previous editions of the journal.
It is my hope that the journal will enhance the development of research activities in science and engineering technology not only in Nigeria, but worldwide.
